Remember this:
In the biblical book of Job, Satan does appear to require God’s permission before testing Job. God allows Satan to afflict Job, but sets limits on what he can do (Job 1–2).
Jesus says something similar in Luke 22:31: “Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat,” suggesting that Satan’s actions are subject to God’s authority. In mainstream Christian interpretation, this means Satan is powerful but not God’s equal or an independent rival; God remains sovereign, though the passages also raise difficult questions about why God permits suffering.
Luke 22:31 – And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
Satan can’t just walk in your door and take over. He has to ask permission. Same thing with Job. He went to God for permission. You’re not hanging out a sign on your door that says, “Hey, come on in,” are you? We have a guest room in our house, but I don’t let just anyone come in and unpack their stuff. Quit giving the evil one room in your house.
