Jesus proclaimed this and this only at the beginning of his ministry. Not the verses that followed.
Luke 4:18 – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
He was quoting from Isaiah. Why did He stop there? Read the rest of what He didn’t read.
Isaiah 61:2-3 – To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
I want to refresh my memory on why He didn’t finish it. What’s your take? Because the rest was yet to be fulfilled. Have I provoked you to find out why?
